Bach's Concerto in D Major, BWV 972—his celebrated transcription of Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 3, No. 9 from L'Estro Armonico—translates beautifully to brass, showcasing brilliant fanfares, lyrical dialogue, and dazzling contrapuntal writing.

This arrangement was created for advanced collegiate, professional, and festival brass ensembles, balancing excitement, clarity, and practical playability while remaining faithful to the spirit of Bach and Vivaldi.

Originally inspired by the iconic German Brass recording, I first transcribed the work entirely by ear for my graduate brass octet recital in 2008. Nearly twenty years later, I returned to the piece, creating a completely new edition with improved scoring, refined voice leading, and thoughtful brass writing for a brass 10tet, premiered at the Arts Empowering Life festival in 2027. While inspired by German Brass, this is an original arrangement—not a transcription of their edition.
